Pieter Simoens
Pieter Simoens (1982) is a professor at Ghent University, affiliated to imec. He specializes in distributed artificial intelligent systems. His research focuses, among other things, on the link between robots and the Internet of Things, continuously learning embedded devices and the study of how collective intelligence can arise from the collaboration of individual and autonomous agents.

Plugging robots into the IoT
Robots and the IoT are a match made in heaven, a match that will allow robots to move around freely and collaborate with each other and with the people they serve. But enabling that collaboration is more than an engineering challenge. It requires sustained multidisciplinary research into such fields as deep learning, smart planning technology, human-robot interfacing, and technology acceptance. Imec’s research groups are working on all those topics, and have some highly visible projects to integrate and demonstrate progress.
