Marcel Zevenbergen

Marcel Zevenbergen obtained a MSc from Delft University of Technology in 2005 and a PhD from the same university in 2009.  During his PhD, he developed a sensor capable of electrically detecting single molecules in solution. Afterwards, he joined imec in the Netherlands where his main interests include the development of novel sensor platforms for the applications mentioned in this article. In his current role as program manager, he investigates how these sensors can be used to solve various challenges in liquid sensing.

Imec and Holst Centre have developed a fluid sensor that makes revolutionary applications possible in areas such as horticulture and healthcare, the food industry and even water collection. The sensor itself is very small (1 cm²), can measure several different parameters at the same time, is relatively cheap to produce and can even be printed on film. The sensor only needs to be calibrated once, after which it can provide reliable readings over an extended period of time. Marcel Zevenbergen, program manager ‘liquid sensing solutions’ at Holst Centre, talks about the technology, applications and demo kit available for companies wanting to work with it.
